Subject: [IML] IFW: IFW 1.0
I added a plane, extruded it into a box, cut a door in the side. Quickrender
shows the inside has as much light as the outside?!?!
Why isn't the inside of the closed box shadowed??

Isn't that how it is supposed to work? IFA 5 does the same thing.
Only shading is done but light doesn't stop at the surface of an
object it goes right through and can hit objects "behind".
To get shadows (not just shading) you have to trace.

In a message dated 98-02-04 15:07:43 EST, you write:
> Among other things, quick-rendering doesn't block light when it hits an
object.
> Ray tracing does.
But I selected 'Trace' in the QuickRender requester??

Did you move the light away from the camera position.

Is the light source shadow casting? You have to enable that..

As far as I am aware, the default light provided in a quickrender never
casts a shadow, regardless of the render mode. Add an axis, make it a light
source in the Attributes dialogue and go from there.

You can raytrace in the Detail editor (both IFA & IFW). With IFW this is
easier. In IFW you just click the render option and in the General tab you
select the 'trace' option instead of the scanline (default) option. (this
option is in all the IFW editors)
With IFA this is not so easy (hint hint Impulse-Martin :)). You HAVE to go
into the prefs (what fun) and PHYSICAL (hint hint Impulse-Martin) type
'trace' in place of the word scanline' on the QURM line. (Using this option
will make it work in all Editors where an light axis can be loaded... like
the Stage Editor only... hint hint Impulse-Martin :)).
In both you have to deselect the light option (default) and add a shadow
casting light axis.
